In the journey of life, every human being yearns for abundant sustenance, not only in the form of material wealth but also in peace of heart, health, blessings, and happiness. The Qur'an, as a guide for Muslims, offers guidance on how to attain sustenance correctly. One of the beautiful concepts is through the 8 gates of sustenance, which guide us to choose the right path and select the best way so that sustenance is always blessed.

1. Sustenance from Heaven and Earth

Allah says in Surah Hud: "And He (Allah) provides sustenance for you from the heavens and the earth." (QS. Hud: 6).

The sky and the earth are the main sources of sustenance for humans, from the rain that nourishes crops to the minerals hidden in the ground. Appreciating these resources by not damaging them is the first step to receiving the blessings of sustenance.

2. Sustenance from Effort

Allah says: "And that man can have nothing but what he strives for." (QS. An-Najm: 39).

Sustenance does not come down by itself, but is the result of sincere effort. Islam teaches us to work hard, be honest, and not despair, because effort is part of worship.

3. Sustenance from Gratitude

Allah promises: "Indeed, if you are grateful, I will surely increase (My favors) upon you." (QS. Ibrahim: 7).

Gratitude is the key that opens the door to additional blessings. By being grateful, we not only receive more but also learn to enjoy what has already been given.

4. Sustenance from Piety

Allah says: "Whoever is mindful of Allah, He will make a way for him to get out and will provide for him from where he does not expect." (QS. At-Talaq: 2-3).

Piety is the spiritual foundation that guides us to make the right decisions. Living by obeying God's commands makes sustenance come unexpectedly.

5. Sustenance from Charity

Allah promises: "And whatever you spend in the cause of Allah, it will be replaced." (QS. Saba’: 39).

Charity is a magnet for sustenance. By sharing, we do not lose, but rather plant seeds of blessings that will grow manifold.

6. Sustenance from Seeking Forgiveness

Allah says: "Seek forgiveness from your Lord, for He is the Most Forgiving. He will send down abundant rain upon you and increase your wealth and children." (QS. Nuh: 10-12).

Seeking forgiveness opens the door to mercy. When sins become a barrier to sustenance, asking Allah for forgiveness is a way to clear the path for our sustenance.

7. Sustenance from Maintaining Ties of Kinship

The Prophet Muhammad said: "Whoever wants their sustenance to be expanded and their life to be prolonged, let them maintain the ties of kinship." (HR. Bukhari).

Maintaining good relationships with family and relatives is a way to expand one's sustenance and blessings in life.

8. Sustenance from Prayer

Allah says: "Call upon Me, and I will respond to you." (QS. Ghafir: 60).

Prayer is the main weapon of a believer. With prayer, we directly ask the Owner of sustenance, solidifying our hearts to receive His blessings.

Sustenance is not just about how much we receive, but rather how blessed what we have is. By choosing the paths that are pleasing to Allah and opting to practice His guidance, we can discover the formula for abundant blessings. Life becomes more meaningful when the sustenance we attain brings benefits, not only for ourselves but also for others. May we always walk on this path of blessings. Aamiin.
